Where to buy Yellow headlamp lenses

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Grum, Nov 3, 2013.

  1. Morning.

I really wanna fit some yellow headlamp lenses to the van. Checked the usual places but no joy.
    Any ideas???
Also,,, Anyone actually have them & what's the verdict???

  2. U can buy amber light it's just a paint on job , I was thinking about doing my lights but I've been told it's an mot failure ?

  3. Cheers dude. I'll check on the MOT side with my mechanic. If i get any decent info I'll let ya know

  4. Halfords used to sell it in a tiny little brown bottle, Brett, you've probably been told wrong. I don't think that the new headlight rules apply to old Bays. eg, HID lights must be white and self leveling with working washers etc but it's worth checking it out anyway.

I'm under the impression yellow lights were made illegal many many moons ago.

  6. Back in the day you used to be able to buy yellow tinted clip over covers

  7. They're going to reduce the amount of light from the headlights. Even the French gave up on them.

Yep they're legal but I just found this on another forum, so watch out for rude stupid arrogant plods

RECENTLY, my 18-year-old son was stopped by Bodmin traffic police in Newquay for having 'yellow headlights'.

He was issued with a vehicle defect form, to which my son respectfully said the headlights were legal and it was not a defect. The officer told my son that if he 'back-chatted' he would be issued with a £30 on-the-spot fine, so he had little choice but to accept it. When we looked at the form, we saw the officer had made an error by writing the registration wrongly. Next day I went to Newquay Police Station to report the error and to say the form should never have been written as the headlights were perfectly legal according to the Road Vehicle Lighting Regulation Law of 1989.

The station officer told me he would contact the issuing officer to ask him to phone me that evening. I received the call and the officer became very defensive. I asked him if he could amend the form but he said this would not matter, that I should fix the car and get it signed off by an MOT station. He even told me that neither my son nor myself, motor mechanics, knew our jobs and suggested I ring the governing body for MOT stations and ask if they are legal lights. The next day I did this and was told the lights are legal. I also went to a few MOT stations to ask them if they could sign the form, which no one would as the form was void if the registration was wrong.
Next day I again went to the police station, this time to ask for the form to be amended. I was told they would ask the issuing officer again to ring me. However, by the end of the next day, I still hadn't heard from him.

Two more days passed and no one had heard from the officer. My wife went to the police station, spoke to the same station officer; he contacted the issuing officer and eventually got permission to amend the form himself. All this has been done and cleared now but the whole affair has caused nothing but stress and worry; and for what? Headlights that are legal and pass an MOT test.

I have written to the police authority to point out the stupidity of the whole thing and to suggest retraining in road vehicle laws and in people skills, as the issuing officer was little short of rude to both my son initially and to myself when he did phone me.

My children have been brought up to have a healthy respect for the police, but the attitude shown by this officer has done nothing but diminish their respect for the police force.

Yellow is the best colour you can have in sure weather conditions. I always had yellow lights in my French cars and the Golfs ways have yellow in the winter because of where the home is.

And when you're on the freeway watch the number of people pull over for you.

  14. Why even bother, if they Summons you the case would be laughed out of Court, I'd have said to the copper that if he wishes to make a fool of himself I'm quite willing to participate in Court, defect form and £30 fine, it'd be worth the time to see him look a prat and get my money back from the illegally issued fine too.

Stand your ground and state that as a reasonable person his position is obviously unreasonable and that you're reasonably going to defend your position using the appropriate statute.

As long as you remain polite, and reasonable, he has no grounds to escalate matters unreasonably.
