Who knows any benders? Are you a bender yourself?

  1. More specifically, I'm looking for someone who can make up a custom bend, to replace one of the standard heat risers that comes with the aftermarket inlet manifold used when fitting a Weber progressive. I'd like to emulate what VW did and have a positive and negative side for exhaust gas to circulate properly, as this improves the 'cold carb syndrome' no end, apparently.

I have the old style Bluebird Custom stainless system which has two outlets for the heat risers....I plan to block one off and run a new riser direct from the manifold to the silencer...so in practice, it could be made for either the left or the right hand side, but if someone knows better, I'd like to hear from them. VW did the left hand side, so there's probably some sound reasoning behind it, but can't figure it out.
Anyone any thoughts, feelings, reactions, mildly amusing anecdotes, condescending remarks? :)

  2. Do what most people do.

(I drive a Beetle but then everyone knows I'm not sensible)

  3. I think vw put it on the LH side, as it was nearer the tailpipe...

Basically the gasses need to flow past the pipe to cause a vacuum, and draw them through from the other end of the preheat pipe... so one pipe needs to be in the flow of the gasses... I'm not sure I'm explaining it very well

Refit an air cleaner with preheated air feed and then the aftermarket heat risers will be adequate. E.g.

I thought about this pipe reroute too .... but the set up I have works ok even sub zero earlier this year.
