Who's best for breakdown cover?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Sick Boy, Jun 10, 2013.

  1. I have just lost the breakdown cover I used to get with my insurance. Who are the best people for breakdown cover on its own, (ie not part of the insurance package?)

  2. I`m with the AA at the moment but they just put my cover up,was with the RAC as it came wit the caravan and camping club thing

Not sure, mines done through my insurance, but I didn't think usual clowns would cover you due to age of vehicle, I know the AA told me to get lost

  4. green flag and a few others have an age restriction, but AA and RAC don`t we have used them once or twice...last year we had Basil and caravan towed home from Devon when our crank broke..

  5. some bank accounts throw it in free of charge. i've got a barclays additions account & that gives you breakdown cover with RAC, also gives you recovery that came in handy when i broke down on the way home after picking my bus up.

  6. Whatever you pay for mate ,might be wise ,when calling re quote to nail them on the "if I need total recovery to home/destination do I get taken all the way on one vehicle or am I dropped at border of Ist guys "patch" to await the other guy .......? me with RAC ,seem good <do not have a chuff why I opinioned that,i have not called them out yet .When living in bus in /around London many years ago ,I was in AA ,as it came within I month of end of contract and I had not called them at all ,and contract plan agreed max 5 call outs per year ,no additional charge, being the pikey jock I am ,I disabled my bus 5 times just to justify the contract fee<sad but true.

  7. I got AA as Green Flag and RAC couldn't find my veh on the application page! £80 for AA Roadside and Relay which can be paid monthly. Just Roadside is much cheaper but if you're a long way from home Relay a much better option I think. Comes with some Rewards discounts too at Moto service stations including Moto Burger King and Moto M&S...

  8. Thanks for all your comments - I have just signed up with Mayday Green Flag for £66. Covers roadside assistance and (crucially) dual relay - ie take us to the campsite and then come back in a week to take us home again.

  10. That does sound good value Congi but I am really attracted to the 'dual' relay bit with Green Flag

  11. Nice one S.B., saw that being done at a show years ago fella arrived on site on a recovery truck (very coolio!),if there was a good about it ? dude who owned bus said " well, I know its a fuel pump prob ,I can get one here "

  12. did you get the cover for green flag online?it says vehicle has to be 88 on?

  13. outlaw should be able to inform us regarding a well known recovery firm :)

  14. That's what I found so went to AA as they had no trouble finding my vehicle from the registration

I've never had trouble with the AA. We've been with them for 19 years and after last years plethora of call outs we got moved to "Gold Members"

The only thing I don't like is that they sometimes send out contractors who are not always the most sympathetic or full of BS. Once I was told "I can only take you 11 (or there about I think) miles because of my cover and that is have to pay extra. REALLLLLyyyyyy I said. I didn't. But what they do do with contractors and in hindsight in glad is that they will get you off the freeway an into a place of safety. At the time it was annoying but in the cold dark depts of the A3 I was more than happy to get taken off.

  16. Wot ,cannot find a/your registration on the web? shame on some other Co"s ,not flogging your/our details to others eh,?(although when getting recent Ins. quotes I to had same prob.)

  17. They should have been accessing DVLA vehicle information but Green Flag only quote on vehicles from 1988 - their checker wouldn't allow any older nor did it allow VW Type 2. RAC was a similar thing - could not find registration mark. Well ended up being their loss. As it happens the big 3 were all about the same price anyway.

  18. Oh, another nice advantage of AA is the AA Rewards which offers a host of discounts including 20% off at MOTO service food and MOTO Burger King and 10% off at MOTO M&S :)

  19. Sorry - I should have clarified this before but have been having log in difficulties. The Green Flag deal I got was Mayday Green Flag. That's why they are happy to take a vehicle older than 1988. It's something to do with The Caravan Club. Call 0845 835 0920 for details 0r caravanclub.co.uk/rescue quote JUNE5 I am not in the Caravan Club
