Hello, I am looking for a template for the rear side window and middle side window of a late bay. What I need is an accurate card template of the side windows from a van that currently has the glass and seals removed. I dont need the size of the glass but I do need the profile of the body recess where the glass seal sits . I also need to know the depth of the window recess and the size of the lip that the rubber mounts to.. I could also do with some pics of the inside detail of the factory set up . I need the info so that I can convert my van which was a commercial with the sides cut out.. Its a proper devon conversion but im not keen on the bulky glass seal and would like to use factory glass and seals. Fabrication isnt a problem, I just dont have a van for reference.. Hope you can help.
i can get you most of that today. so basically.. van with windows out.. you need a template of the actual hole? then you want the dimensions of the lip etc?
window lip's 9mm all the way round. inside opposite sliding door middle 20mm rear n/s full width 40mm. rear offside front edge. 35mm at thickest point in the middle, then 25mm top and bottom. inside n/s rear.. theres a small cut out at the top, about 2/3ds from the rear of the window at the top. same on the opposite side the middle window has 2 of these cut outs, at 1/3 and 2/3ds across. if that makes sense? i can get templates, but i have no card. and ill need to know exactly what you need a template of. carl.
Thats pretty much what Im after Carl.. The template was the size of the total hole including the 9 mm lip ...the perimeter of the bodywork recess..... a pen mark around the inside would indicate the 9 mm lip.... I could work from there ..... I have some card here that is perfect for the job I can roll it up and stick it in a poster tube if that helps and stick a smaller poster tube in the mix for the return journey... and include the top hat section you need as advertised ... and a few beer tokens for taking the time out to organise this for me .. ))
I have the remains of a whole side panel (LHD opposite slding door), where I just used the lower half, so what's left it the window aperture outer skin, into and including the outer half of the seal lip and most of the swage. Sadly I cut a chunk out of one top corner to fix something. However, it would be a good start for one window - 95% there and a great guide to get the others right. I'll get a pic of it Monday if you're interested.
Thanks for the offer Zed, I think that bit will servr someone else better for a repair section as it appears they rot quite bad. Im resigned to fabricating the parts now. I have a fair bit of information that should help with the proposed conversion. thanks again..
