Windscreen wipers/arms and a wobberly gear stick

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by oxiderenegade, Oct 13, 2013.

  1. or as my son says ' a wobberly knob'.

Firstly we went to buy new blades ( before the fateful journey) however chap at wilcos said we really need new wiper arms as well. Any advice upon which are the best to use on a 72 crossover - I would like chrome or matt black.............?

As you can see by the threads, Ollies gears gave up the ghost yesterday ...................what happens is the only gear ( which is rather funny) it will go into is reverse, however that's not where it is supposed to be....................can not find any other gears at all and , well poop old boy his sticks gone all wobberly............

Is this the gear linkage ..............( again) we are worried we hit the bottom end on a sleeping policeman or something ..................

please don't say it is the gear box as I may have to cry , the galaxy has gone and broke too .................no rear brake light ( could be the earth strap or the connectors need to have a look in the old manual)

Thank you in advance for anyone who can give me a heads up on what I am looking for........

  2. If reverse is only found where 2nd or 4th is ie pulling back on the stick then I'd start with the two bolts holding the stick and shift plate in position just in case they've slackened off a bit and allowed the shift plate to move.

A pinch bolt has fallen out of the gear rod under the van, OR the part of the stick that bolts to the cab floor has snapped or what Fritt said.
    Cheap and easy fixes all.
I assume your wiper chap thinks they're not very springy. They rarely manage to keep to the curve of the window at the sides if that's all. If they clean the screen and you can see where you're going they're probably fine.

  5. ypu hit the nail on the head .......he said they were not very springy and we needed a new pair ...........

They're not all that springy when they're new either TBH.

  7. The correct arms and blades for August '68 to end July '72 are silver coloured as per the below NOS examples.
I have the blades for sale, as per the below, photo for £25, postage extra.

They look good vwed, like they might even manage to shape themselves to the screen.
