iv just got my bus back from the paint shop and looked at my loom its in a right state ,is it best to start again buy a new 1 or replace bits,as there are some bits looked to of heated up and burnts even gone green in placed the copper,im into double figures (10k)on this bus but if u look at my thread on restorations u will see the state of it,but not sure what to do or is anyone local can pop look or any 1 recomend whats best it comes home i morning !!
If you can see melted wires then anything could be under the sheathing, it would be a fire risk and very unreliable, best to replace IMHO I've had the same thing and the damage you can see is just the tip of the iceberg
just wanted to see what people thought any idea were i can get them from ?? i have a 72/73 cross over but it has a 76/79 type 4 engine in was in wen i got her
Another option is you make your own... It's not that hard once you get to it!! I use: http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/VWP-onlinestore/home/homepage.php or http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/ Wiring diagrams in colour are on www.vintagebus.com
If you look at the most common breakdown, and fire, problems, it's fuel / wiring Ours has large sections of slightly fried wiring so the budget has to be set aside for a new loom in modern cable Some of the main 12v stuff could be used as axle stands and copper poking through red plastic may get a Turner prize but not on my watch! Missing gearbox / chassis earth cable knocked out the alternator and loom on ours when we bought it but how we laughed when we found it was only pennies to replace everything (just like every thing on a T4 engine!) Think of all the shiny stuff that looks good on the back of a yellow taxi and a hidden loom may be better value getting you where you planned to be IMHO Mr B
Good decision (IMHO) and fitting pic's and a write up would be handy I looked at ours again and forgot about the Toad immobiliser "spliced" into loom behind the dash - best order several rolls of insulation tape by the looks of things! Mr B
Look for something called self amalgamating tape, it'd better than boggo PVC electrical tape. If you must use PVC tape, ensure its warm if it's cold weather...keep it in trouser pockets for example.
