I have bought a set of the Halfords offset ring /swan neck spanner . Have yet to use them but they look and feel to be of a fairly good standard and price was a reasonable £38 . This style of spanner I only use occasionally so there no point in paying huge amounts for it to sit in the toolbox .
I have a Halfords 'Professional' 150 piece sockets set, 2 Halfords 'Professional' torque wrenches as well as a flex ratchet set and screwdriver set. I bought the socket set and torque wrenches in 2005 due to the lifetime warranty/guarantee and I purposely retained the receipt in case I was ever asked for it. Initially I damaged torx bits as well as a broken ratchets which were replaced without issue, but then in 2010 the carry case itself broke on the hinges. I asked if it could be replaced and was told 'no' as it's only the tools that are covered. In 2020 another ratchet mechanism stripped and I went to replace it. The staff on site asked to see the complete socket set and receipt and then stated that as the item was 15yrs old it wasn't covered anymore. I refuted this but they were adamant so I returned home and contacted 'Halfords' head office and explained my position informing them that my carry case was also broken and I was told that wasn't covered under warranty some years previously. I was instructed by staff at the head office to return to the Halfords store I had been turned away from and when I did the staff had a new ratchet waiting for me and a brand new carry case (unfortunately the design had changed and my set would not fit it to the new case). Last week I went to the store to replace a snapped Torx bit and this time it was replaced without any issue. I was not asked for the receipt/proof of purchase (which I had in my pocket) and neither did they ask to see the rest of the socket set (which was in the boot of the car outside ready). The receipts are starting to go yellow and the print is fading.
I don't anymore but used to use it for Metro sump bungs .That's my drawer of imperial spanners and sockets .I keep them just in case but have not needed them for some time .We have nearly phased out repairing all old classics at the garage .
On our old Atco mower...about three years ago. The big ring spanner I bought to do up the struts on my old Corsair...in 1977. How time flies.
I have the big set, the box was not great and started to fall apart, I took it in and they said the box only had a years warrenty
Now who would want to see a band called ‘Metro Sump Bungs’ Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,first arm is in the sleeve already
40 years ago I got a small Stanley 1/2" drive set from the local garage and it's still my main socket set, it's indestructible. At various points I've ground down the outside of the 13, 15 and 17mm sockets and they're fine. I haven't lost any of it over those 40 years.
I have an amazing set in the van (about two feet behind me but I cba to get it). Red metal box. JK I think, not that JK. I haven’t lost a bit either. I mean, the no2 pozi is embedded 3inches in my sister’s gate post, but technically I haven’t lost it.
