Baja drivers door primed (I bought this solid door off @davidoft when I first got the project to save having to repair the rotten door it came with), and started stripping the boot area for some primer. I was originally planning to top coat the boot but think I’ll just paint it with raptor instead as it will suit the rugged look of the bug and save on some prep time.
A quick dash down the workshop after work today to get the front into primer. I almost forgot to weld the horn mount back in after chopping it out for the baja cut! Decided to weld it in the now redundant windscreen washer bottle panel. I’ve convinced Max to come down over the next few weekends to help rub down the primer ready for paint and raptor. She’ll hate it by the end!
Last section of the shell all primed now, underneath the boot and under the heater channels. Now begins the mammoth task of rubbing all the primer down and getting the panels flat. Max has been coming down the last few weeks to help out with this stage. What a trooper!
Looking great, James. Can't wait to see this done. PS I do hope you remember to buy Max a nice bunch of her favourite flowers
I got the Baja bug all masked up over the weekend ready for colour coded raptor to go on all of the high impact areas and the front boot. I need to go over the whole shell with wet and dry sandpaper and we should be ready for paint in the next few weeks.
Be interested to see how the Raptor works out, Jim. I am getting my front wings done with it on the underside, same idea, tinted to match.
Will grab some pics over the weekend for you. I've already done the insides of the baja kit to hide the raw fibreglass.
Thanks, look forward to that! If the Raptor works out, I may get my rears re-done the same way, I managed to split an edge of the rear wing again, seems to happen when I give it some beans it's on my fix list, as it were.
We got all of the baja’s high impact areas raptored yesterday. Busy it at today sanding down the shell and then getting the door inners painted.
Door inners topcoated this afternoon with Savannah Beige. Exciting to see some colour starting to go on.
