I would say yes....earth is earth...if there was a potential to damage the battery in any way, it wouldn't matter where you connected 240V earth to the van, the battery would still get damaged.

  4. would it be better if i connected the mains earth to the chassis on its own bolt ?

there's a block connector under the bed on my van connected to the chassis for the fridge i used that

My leisure battery main earth is connected behind my engine hanger bolt, my consumer unit 4mm earth is connected under the r&r bed bolt which is through a seatbelt mount. This was all about convenience and having the earth wire connected local to the consumer unit/battery.

I will probably kill myself :(

You will also find a lot of sites over the channel the hook will only have 6amp supply and they dont care if the live and neutral are swapped over.

As long as you have a 2 pole RCD you should be fine.

  11. I only have a single pole RCD but I have a plug in polarity detector so I can reverse the inlet plug (it's an original schuko plug and socket) when the supply is reversed. I've also still got the two cartridge fuses which were installed with the vehicle.

About 1 in 5 sites are wired the other way round.

  12. how can you have a single poll RCD ?

they work by making sure what goes down the live comes back down the negative, it wouldn't work just on one poll

  13. search me! Actually it's an RCBO with combines a circuit breaker for overload with an earth leak detector, so I think the single pole part is the earth leak. Quite often, in houses anyway, these are separate items so take up a fair bit of room.

With my polarity detector I just plug it in to to one of the square pin sockets, and if the incoming wiring is correct I get 2 red lights. Only one light and it needs the polarity reversing.

  14. A single pole RCD would monitor live and neutral but only switch the live! If Im not mistaken thats what and RCBO is!

  17. Of course you can get a double pole device which automatically takes care of both eventualities, which is what the fuses do.
