I have to say the more you cut out the easier it is! I just need to make some new cable tubes and I'll be ready to weld stuff back in.
Done a little more today I needed the rear cross member but could not get hold of the correct one so I made one from 2mm steel, not 100% yet but it'll get there. Welded up the front top hat, cross member and out rigger. Cut a section of floor out and cut the repair section ready for welding And mocked up the front arch ready for the repairs
Cheers I'm just waiting now for the new year when I don't have to buy x-mas stuff and I can get some more repair panels. Might be finished in april
its amazing how long metalwork takes, this resto thread shows it all in a couple of breaths but i know that this is a big haul of work. i have only refurbed the windows and a couple of panels so far of my van and it was time consuming to say the least.. And being a woodworker by trade with no metal experience, i was daunted by the task but ive go to say i am converted. Metalwork is awesome i wish i had tried it sooner, i cant wait to get back to the resto i think i am obsessed. And this thread is excellent i would love to take something like this on if i had the space. Its one thing to look forward to when im retired, having day upon day spare when i can do this and obviously being a millionaire from ze bingo. Excellent progress and total respect to you. Phil
Cheers guys. With every project you just have to sit and look at it for a long time before even thinking of picking up a cutter. I think about how each panel is welded in and how/when to remove and in what order. No point welding in all the sills etc and then sticking the floor on top if it means you can't tidy-clean and prep the areas after. Baby steps all the way. and never just cut the rsut out without having the repair panel/sections to hand, I seen many people do this only to find the repair section is smaller when offered up.
