Hi All, Paul and Ally from Kent here and proud new owners of a 1977 T2 Bay (Basil). The previous owners had imported him from California a few years ago and he comes packed with a 2000cc T4 engine and air con would you believe it. We picked Basil up last week so still getting to know him but he is already well and truly one of the family. He is in need of a little TLC but this seems to be mainly surface rust here and there (from what we can see anyway). I have found a VW specialist called Rusty Kampers just outside of Canterbury and they have invited me down to look around at what they do. I wanted to take Basil for a checkup to make sure everything is in order so if anyone has used this company please let me know what you think. We have decided to start a website to log the adventures of Basil so feel free to have a look (link in signature). Any ways, nice to meet you all and thanks for reading. Heres some pics:
not far from us then , did you buy it local ? Looks nice before you plough into having work done , stick a few pics up of what worrys you , it may not be much. If you want a meet up ill always pop down or meet you half way im herne bay way .
We got it from Crowborough so not too far. Nothing is really bothering me as such but it's good to know that there are some very helpful people real close The reason I was looking to a local specialist to give it a once over (and under) was to make sure there was nothing majorly wrong with it. I was told it was last serviced in September but there is no record of this. Being mechanically challenged its all a bit of a learning curve but I'm getting there. I'm going to do an oil change and check the sparks as a starter.
it looks good n solid , If its running ok try not to tinker till youve had a read up or asked a question on here , pop it down ill have a look n listen for you if you want .
That'll be great, i'm all over the show with work at the moment but i'll drop you a PM at some point if thats OK
Greetings from Medway! That's a nice looking van. We often visit Whitstable at weekends so will keep an eye out for you. Get yourself a TLB sticker too.
Thanks Paul. It's in pretty good shape now but not immaculate just yet, it's had the usual bodily areas refurbished. The colour is a modern VW shade. Hope you get to enjoy yours lots this coming summer, if we have one.
