My late 72 bay has a later CJ engine fitted with late auto box. I was having problems with play in accelerator linkages in cab and so have today changed to linkage across the cab floor and all is much better ......................however, I am certain the accelarator cable set up is non standard ( unless of course VW used electrical cable block connectors to attach the cable at the front! )......thought not.!..anyway, reconnected cable using a cable clamp untill I can get a new inner cable ( as a side issue none of the normal dealers seen to quote one in their lists. ) anyway, as I was re-attaching the cable I couldn't help but notice how stiff the cable was to pull tight, I know that the cable goes to the auto box,not the carb but it needed a fair old pull with the grips.Does anyone know if the cable should be that stiff?, can you buy an inner and outer cable? which cable do I require and who has them? Hows that for a list of questions!!
    Any advise appreciated,Cheers Keith.

Keith, I took one of these apart the other day, it had the accelerator linkage running to the centre of the bus, the cable was cut at this end and held to the linkage by a barrel like the one in the linkage in a 34 pict 3 carb, it then ran through a plastic conduit to the anchor point at the rear by the box, it then connected to the lever at the box by an eye not dislike the one in the end of the support for a net curtain, I have looked at the sites of all the usual suspects JK ect and they all do a similar one. Oh and yes it was quite stiff to pull by hand.

    So to speak :-[

Thanks - that was a great help...it seems the conduit / outer is no longer available.....i was worried that some sort of kink in the outer was causing stiffness..but it sounds like its the norm. I can live with the stiffness !! :)

The outer seems to be just a rigid pvc type conduit about 15mm as I recall, I can measure it ,ID, length ect if needed

Will be on my back checking out the stiffness on Wednesday - thank heavens she's in the garage - if I need to replace I will give you a post / call.

    Thanks again.
