Back but never forgotten I hope…

So, though a lot of you already know and have met me, I thought in ways to introduce myself, I’d do another intro for new members since I was last active.
I live in the west Mids still, same house, same kids, same wife….new dog as last one passed. I can’t remember what I was doing job wise when I had the bay, but suspect I was self employed, anyway, I went permy for 8 years with Siemens in a sales role….hated it, now I’m self employed again lol….1-3 years from retirement I hope (57 now ! Defo done by 60 or maybe before if the idiots annoy me enough one day)
Brought the new van / bus (1965 splitty on somewhat of a whim about 5 years ago), it needed some work (quite a lot actually) so in 5 years, it’s driven under 500 miles, 4 camping trips, and more trips to the body shop and upgrade garage than anywhere else. The body work is now completed, no tin worm anywhere, it’s been gravitexed, then had painted belly pans fitted. Upgrade wise, it’s had fellows speedshop disc brakes on front, Revol rack n pinion steering, servo assist on brakes (vw Jim kit) and it’s just gone in for a Subaru engine, freeway flyer gearbox, new prototype bay fuel tank (extra 25L capacity) and full irs rear conversion with new bay parts.
Next it’s going into for a pop top, then only got the seats to recover and it’s done.

in parallel, I’m also restoring a 1963 westfalia funeral trailer I recently acquired in Germany….there is a story behind that too as the wheel came off the trailer on the drive home doing 60 in Belgium…scary….I had a 1965 funeral trailer before this one, but was offered silly money for it so sold it…then promptly regretted selling it haha. So, it’s being restored for camping first, then when I retire, I am thinking of offering funeral services…

in hindsight, I can honestly say I wish I’d never sold my bay….

so, back on the scene, and finally got the bus safe to drive and something I’ll be confident to drive longer distances. As soon as I retire, we are planning a 6-9 month tour of Europe ‘ Morocco amd anywhere else the wind takes us.
Will be doing a few vw events, and hopefully some Latebay weekends if a split is welcome, amd of course techenders… peace all and looking forward to reconnecting.

You'll love the Subaru conversion, I don't regret having it done one bit, a really pleasant drive!
