Hi all got the engine back in the camper and got it running today ;D run it for about ten minutes all fine stop and restarted it as had a problem with it starting before when hot started fine but then the batt light on the dashboard came on now i have see the batt light come on before, the last time i drove it before i started work on it but thought it might have just been to battery getting low the battery has been on charge and it turns over fast when starting its a 1600 with alternators with separate regulator also when driving it before at night when the lights are on and you turn the indecators on the batt light would glow slighty anyone got any ideas where to look and what to test Thanks in advance Paul
Is your alternator charging? Measure the battery voltage with the engine running. Less than about 13.5V, it's a duffer.
Hi right checked the output tonight and the battery is 12.8 without the engine running and then goes up to 13.3 with it running this was measured with a cheap multimeter so not sure is right but does show that there is output from the alternator but notice tonight when i go the start the dashboard lights (batt and oil) didn't come on when i turned the key i just started it and left it at idle with out touching the peddle as soon as i touch the peddle the batt light came on again it is like its working in reverse ? the first time i started it when put the engine in it worked fine light came on and went off when started when i got the van last year the was a new ignition switch in the glove box but not fitted could this be something to do with it ? sorry about the long post but thought i give as much info i can thanks in advance Paul
Hi All can someone tell me how the batt light on dash works? is it controlled by the regulator ? Paul
theres a blue wire out of the regulator that feeds it is as much as i know, i used it to feed the relay on my split charge
one side of the lamp gets a +12V feed from the ignition. The other goes back to the regulator. With the ignition on but engine not started the regulator gives a 0V thus the lamp illuminates. Engine started the dynamo will output a voltage and the terminal on the regulator will equal battery voltage and so lamp will go out. If your lamp is working in reverse it means that it is not getting the initial +12V from the ignition so you will need to check your fuse in way 11. Probably find the oil pressure light and the indicator tell tales don't work either.
Ok Thanks for the help i will chesk the fuse and change the ignition switch as i have a new one anyway thanks again paul
HI Thanks for the help i played with the fuse box and all working now so going to tighten every thing up in fuse box Paul
