I have just put my engine ( 1600 TP standard single Solex) back in after putting a new top end on. I treated it to a recon carb. Its in and running but was a bugger to get to idle and it has a flat spot as you first press the throttle, I thought it was an air leak but Ive spayed WD40 then Butane all around the intake but nothing. Im fed up. :(

I have done the usual, but it seems difficult to set the carb as normal, the idle screws (volume & bypass) don't seem to make much difference, I have set the timing best I can in the circumstances.

  4. what make of carb is it and did you get it recon or did you buy it as a recon? i had a chinese one and no end of problem's and in the end managed to find a new solex and set that up.

I got it from Bugjulie off VZI, its got a standard Vac Dizzy. Its a standard Solex.

  6. Hi Pie,

I had a very similar problem after re-installing a stock solex 34-pict 3 that had just been refurbed by Laurie Ellis.

Basically there were 2 things wrong - it had a x125 main jet - which is fine for a bug but not a bus, and the accelerator pump was'nt giving enough 'squirt'.

Changed the jet for a x130 (sourced from a lady on eBay who sells Mikuni jets that are a perfect fit) and adjusted the accelerator pump in accordance with the instructions on Rob and Daves VW resource pages.

Now it's like driving a different vehicle.

(mine also has a SVDA dizzy - I junked the 009).

Good luck - it's just a matter of changing 1 thing at a time to see what works.

I'd suggest you fit your old carb and see how it goes. Could be a rubbish carb.
