  5. say you take off from the lights using your big engine ,and then a person or child walks out in front of you by chance ,and you whack ya brakes on asap.......and they fail because the bhp and torque combined behind the fronts just give up due to torque stress,s ??????bigger engine means upgrading the brakes esp with 200bhp ....dont let yaself down bruv ,just get vented discs allround ,if anything youll feel safer and be safer ..dont be affraid ,and upgrade.......this advice does apply to 1641 upgrades or even standard 2lt aircool lump as the bhp issue and torque are less greater than a modern service 2.0lt engine .....although a vw bay has great braking system ,me personally would upgrade ........

  7. nonsense ..explain to me how a seriously beefed engine will not create greater stress on standard bay brakes on a quick jump from the lights ?cheers bruv and how ya doing this morning fella

  8. acceleration does not = braking is what I mean

and sick as a dog mate - thanks for asking but I wish i'd stayed in bed
    :(

  9. I think kenetic energy is what you are trying to explain, if your hurtled towards 60 mph at double the normal rate it takes double the retardation to bring you back to a stop again at the same rate. Quite suprised at some of you experienced guys poo pooing bigger brakes with a more powerfull engine. I am guilty of slaming bigger engines into smaller cars when i was younger, but as you get a bit older and hopefully more sensible you gotta budget for brakes on any serious engine upgrade. How would you feel rear ending someone by total accident and mullering their kids in the back seat on one of the few over zelous little thrashes you are bound to do occassionally, all down not to equaling out your 0 mph to 60mph and back to 0 mph again. Last time i properly insured a modified engined car the 1st thing they asked was what had i done to the brakes!!!!!!

  10. call me thick but if you doing 70mph in a 2 ton bus then it doesn`t matter what engine you have you are still trying to stop a 2 ton bus ?

standard brakes will stop in the same distance if you have scooby porsche or vw powered bus if the weight is the same ?

different if your doing 120mph or racing it

  12. Id want vented discs at least on the front
I thing having a bit of fun could easilly get standard brakes too hot and give massive fade

  15. Ok, jokes aside.
If you start a thread called "brake upgrade " then deep down you know you should up grade them. You spent a lot of money getting the engine in the bus. Better brakes are a no brainer.

As Oscar has said above. Better engine performance needs better brakes. It's quite hard to examine but you don't modify one without the other.

Just look at the Reeves Golfs we look after at the garages. I don't think they would fair very well with standard brakes and they are now much much lighter than a standard Mk1 and Mk2 Golf.

Personally I couldn't afford to drive a camper with my right foot permanently hard on the accelerator or the brakes. Standard will do me fine. If you're going to always be braking at the last minute from a speed which is as fast as you can go fair enough. However, I'd be sorting the suspension first because you'll pile it up way before your brakes fade.
