We were here at 1/2 term (Jubilee week) .. sorry for the delay in putting this up. http://www.carlyonbay.net/ Freya's review .. age 7 1/2 I liked this campsite because: it has a mini golf course it has a cool playground with a pirate ship a really good shop that sold toys as well as food 5 minutes walk from the beachbeautiful beachfantastic swimming pools!campsite cafe did fab hot chocolate and chips! Mum's review - age is secret The campsite has very spacious pitches, ours was a hard-standing with electric - what this means is it has a hard-standing gravel area in the middle and then grass all round so a nice mix. We had asked to be near to the playground and we opened Daisy-Mae's door and Freya could run straight across to the pirate ship or the mini-golf (only 6 or 7 holes but all included) which was great for her independence and also meant we didn't have to stand beside the pirate ship in the miserable weather. Carlyon Bay beach is a 5 minute walk (beware the 80+ steps .. although there is a steep road you can walk down instead!) and was created from the silt etc from the old clay pits so is a cross between coarse sand or fine gravel. There is meant to have been a huge development at the beach but it is on hold (planning issues etc I think) so it does look a bit sad down there but it was a lovely beach to walk along and for a paddle - we were there at 8.30pm one night and it was great. The site is only 5 mins from St Austell (Tesco and Asda) and 2 miles from the Eden Project (get there under your own steam (i.e. walk or bike) and kids get in free and adults save £4 each .. but it is a steep hill!) and obviously being 5 mins from the beach means you are 5 mins from the coastal path. Campsite has a licenced shop (yay), swimming pools (3 small ones - rather cold but it wasn't really the right weather for them) and small cafe. Would we go back - yes, but can the sun shine next time
got to be honest...lot better places to stay in cornwall...I woudn't choose St Awful,at least you liked it 8)
