Diesel powered bus?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by flagbus, Feb 20, 2012.

  1. I've got about 45 litres of petrol mixed with 10 litres of diesel that I drained from my wife's car (don't ask).
Will it cause damage to my bus or should I save it for the lawnmower? I love my bus but I hate mowing grass!

isn't diesel heavier than petrol? i don't think it mixes well, i wouldn't do it to a petrol vehicle, i've ran old diesel landies on diesel mixed with any old muck including petrol and parrafin but that sounds like a bad plan.

  3. My mates a mechanic for a big company who drives lots of small red vans and the drivers are regulary putting petrol into diesel vans he let's it settle in a vat and syphons off the petrol, but then he moans he's cars not running right.
So if it's a new car it may not like it if it's an old one it might like it.

Bet your still none the wiser now.

A bit of petrol in a diesel car wont bother it but diesel in a petrol car is not good dont run it

  5. They way i normally do it is i put a couple of litres in and dilute it down with petrol have done it many time's and had no problem's but have only done it in older vehicles ;D

  6. This is what will happen.

  7. Makes your exhaust sound like birdsong :). I want some!

  8. i put some mixed fuel in my petrol car when i was younger was ok to start with when there was a full tank but as it got down toward 1/4 tank it started smoking so i filled it back up with new fuel and it cleared and was no trouble. if it was me i would put a gallon of contaminated fuel in each time you went to the petrol station

  9. i'd use it over a long period of refills, maybe 5 litres per tank full. My mate did this so I took 75 litres off him - only 5 of these were diesel and my bus smoked like a b'stard and misfired until warm. Had to change the plugs and fuel filter after. I'd never do it on my new engine but diesel won't hurt the petrol engine. Water or petrol in diesel will knacker it due to the high compression. I found out with water when my new car was written off in the July floods in 2007 when the engine went pop - shortly before floating off don the River Severn at Gloucester
