  1. Same as before all works fine, fit back into dash and it blows, have even earthed it too see if it helps.

Does it blow if you operate it outside of the dash ?

  3. No works fine

Then either the wiring is incorrect or the switch is faulty ,

Does it only blow the fuse when the hazards are on or the indicator too?

  5. Just blows the hazard fuse, but I also now have no indicators on the cluster only outside, I give Up

If blowing when attached to dash seems like earth how about wrapping hazard switch in insulation tape and using a nylon washer so no metal touches dash - your switch does not look the best - what’s all the melted looking bits around the connectors and parts chipped off the side? It shouldnt short!

There should be a light on the knob of the switch. The body of the switch is the earth for that light!

If fuses blow when you connect something to earth, adding more earths wont fix it.

My guess is the switch is rubbish.

But the fault finding isnt helped by the beautiful wiring harness with many fuses and non standard wiring colours.

  8. Yes I totally agree with the non standard wiring colours, if taken to an auto electrician then could not follow a wiring diagram.

I tried the tape and washer before so as you say the next step is a new switch unit, but how does it work with out issue whilst not fitted to the dash?

  9. TBH, I'd stop speculating and just fit a new switch, otherwise you'll go mad.

If you measure the voltage on the body of the switch while its floating in the air, and it goes to 12 volts when you select the hazards, that should just be the other side of the bulb in the knob going to 12 volts.

If you can light a 21w indicator bulb between the switch body and the chassis, thats a short..

I expect the switch contacts started burning with all the fuse blowing too.

Sometimes its worth using a Sealey PPVT automotive circuit tester to do things like experimentally grounding things or applying power and checking for voltages all by rocking a 3 way switch.

It has a self resetting fuse that opens before the main circuit fuse blows. If you go on a T2D Boot Camp they will teach you its use and then sell you one..

  12. Found a spare in my box of bits, will test the voltage first on the one wired first to see and will test this one too. Cog arrives tomorrow for speedo so will sort that first.

Swapped for the spare I had and Bingo its on, still got some other electrical to sort but thats a good start to the weekend.

Cheers for all the ideas and defo up for a Boot Camp.

  15. I did check the 12 volts first Mike but it didn't show so went for the swap so must have been something internal, even though the spare one works will order a new one to be sure. thanks
