Anyone follow 1bike1world on Instagram? https://www.instagram.com/stories/1...ig_story_item_share&igsh=MTc5cXZkOXR3OXE2bQ== Or https://www.facebook.com/stories/17...YwMw==/?view_single=1&source=shared_permalink He bought a bay last year, it got stolen in Lithuania and he is now trying to drive it home. If you can view the Story, are you able to give any advice?
Looks like the through bolts on the fan housing are either loose or the threads stripped as when he wobbled it, the motor remained still. He could remove the fan off the crank, check the mounting bolts which, from memory are behind the fan. There are four. The bolts he pointed to hold the two fan housing halves together, Id check the others but if it was me, id leave them till i was home and concentrate on the others,
Can't think why the shroud bolts came loose unless they were never tightened up proper and vibrated loose . As for the fan ...can't make out if the bolts are just loose or something bad further in .
Not sure Mark looked like it was moving when he pulls on the fan ,but doesn't look like the 3 bolts are loose or could be single bolt on the flange its attached to . I get the impression some one has been trying to strip it down or something ...it was stolen was it not .
Yeah it was stolen, hes trying to get back home? He could invest a bit of time and tools to do a thorough check. At the end of the day, Id want to get back to safer ground. I do wonder if there is a VW club in France could look out for him.
Not easily - I tried looking at the links whilst not being logged into tto either platform, no chance. I've linked this page to the guy Dean whose van it is. He is currently in Helsinki looing for a suitable garage/mechanic. Dean is is from Scotland and travels Europe either on his push bike or in the camper AND his cat Nala.
UPDATE Someone got hold of a guy who runs an Air-cooled club in Finland. He owns quite a lot of VWs. He popped to Helsinki and fitted some new bolts to the fan housing.
