Fitting new clutch....pitfalls?

  1. Hi

    I have finally got the engine out and new clutch bought but just wanted to check I was doing this right...
    - The old clutch is not that worn really but the thrust bearing is all over the place which I think must be the cause of the judder I was getting so I have decided to change the lot including the bearing guide.
    - The flywheel is lovely and shiny and no scoring and no oil contamination.
    - Is changing the clutch as easy as just fitting the friction disc with the aligmnent tool provided and then bolting on the new cover plate bit, swapping the bearing and guide for the new bits and bobs your uncle or am I missing something?

    Not done this before as i guess you may have noticed!

  2. Very straight forward....just remember to bolt up evenly and to the correct torque. Wipe off the splines on the primary shaft and lubricate sparingly with Molyslip / CV joint grease as thats all the lubrication it will get.
     
  3. Keep an eye on the clips that hold the release bearing: mine still rattles with the clutch down.
     
  4. It's normally the spanner behind the spanner you have to look out for

    Type 4 are so easy with that weedy torque setting.

  13. Would be a good idea to check and maybe replace the clutch cable while you have the engine out, not a big job

    T1's are easy to remove and fit and should slip onto the input shaft easily. If you have any trouble or find it resisting just recheck the clutch friction plate hasn't slipped.

    There are packing clips like big staples in the 3 pronged early type clutches. If you forget they end up in the bottom of the bell housing. I don't forget - I find them there. ;)

    I will be changing the cable too as I still have some dodgy French contraption made from a kit when the cable broke in the Dordogne 6 years ago!
