Front seats

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by 73johnathan, Jan 1, 2012.

  1. My bay is a walk through with two Recaro seats welded in. I want to replace these with original type seats and have been looking at a 2/3 bench seats how are these fixed in, are the front bulk heads different? Has anyone got any decent pictures?

bench seats need to have a fixed bulk head i believe

  3. Do mean a bulk head that is completely across the front rather than the two I have with the walk through?

i think bench seats were only fitted in non walk through vans? you could easily make one fit though, also there is a company (bluebird?) who make a centre seat i think.

normal non welded in correct seats sit on runners on top of the tubs i can only advise on what i have which is one bulkhead and one captains chair, the runners are the same though.

    this is a proper runner

  7. You can only fit 2/3 bench seats into non-walkthrough vans because the larger passenger seat relies upon 2 fixing points on the bulkhead to stay in place. This is because the passenger seat unclips and pivots forward to give access to the spare wheel underneath. On a walkthrough, the bench seat would be insufficiently supported.

  9. Do you or could you get some pictures to give me an idea of what you have done?

A double seat is just a wide passenger seat, with the same fittings at the bottom, but further apart, and an extra top one.
I made up 2 angle iron brackets to span the walkthrough which I bolted in place mostly using existing mounting holes, some of which already had captive nuts. takes care of the bottom. The top I haven't finished, but it will be a continuation of the top 12" or so of the bulkhead which I'm going to cut out of a scrap van. You're probably going to need to weld things. Sorry no pics - this is one you need to work out for yourself. Mine's not terribly neat yet as I was just toying with the mechanics of it. I'll go back over it at some point and make one that looks like it should be there. It wasn't very difficult once I had the seat.

  11. I fancy doing the opposite of this, my van was originally non walk through bench seat. A previous owner converted to single seats made a storage box in the middle and cut a large section out of the bulk head. I want to change it to a complete walk through depending on fabrication costs.

  15. there was a factory add on option to turn a walkthrough with 2 bulkheads into a non wlakthrough, bluebird customs still do a repro one of it.

  16. yes thats right seat lifts up then the wheel sits under the seat bar and there is no wheel well in the boot floor like in a walk through

  17. just picked my bench seat up from upolsterers today its going in front . who needs a walkthrough i always bang me head when i climb through and you can make another storage space under the seat . it was originally a rear bench seat out of my microbus . did a bit of adapting and welding new fixing points .it will be fixed in permanent position , going to fix it in tomoz if it ever stops bloody raining . could put a photo on if i new how

  18. would be great if you could stick some pics up , been thinking about using mazda bongo rear seats in mine

  19. a t25 double passenger seat will fit a bulkhead latebay my mates got one in his think he just had to do a bit of a mod to the upper brackets on the backrest
