Fuel Sender.

  1. Is there any other way to replace the fuel sender without dropping the motor, type 4 motor. Ta.

Have you got standard carbs and air filter?

  3. Yes, all standard.

  5. Thanks for that, job for the winter I think. ;)

  6. Bear in mind you can actually get at this without dropping the engine with a T4. Although I could now drop my engine a lot quicker, the first time took me around 6 hours what with all the frozen up bolts and cables. To get the bulkhead out with the engine in took me under an hour and I could probably beat that now.

Easy peasy cat. No need to disconnect anything or remove the engine...

Remove plastic part of oil filler
Remove 3 rear tins (might not have to).
Remove 2M10 bolts connecting rear gearbox to hanger
    Support engine with jack
Remove 4 bolts connecting engine bar to chassis hangers
Let the jack down an inch or two
You can now get the firewall out
    And then the tank.

Before you lower the engine (pivoted on front GB mount) check there's some slack in the fuel line from the tank to the pump.

  8. Fiendish >:D. I like it. Would probably have saved a lot of angst when I came to getting the tank out.

It's the VW recommended way to remove the engine. ;)
Pretty sure you can leave all the tin on thinking about it, but the plastic filler just catches the lip.
Obviously removing the engine you'd have to disconnect loads of stuffd, but just lowering it a bit like this you can leave everything if you keep your eye on the petrol pipe.
