Fuel tank float.

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by grandmst, Jun 23, 2024.

  1. Hey all,

Does anyone know where I can find a decent fuel sender float.

After inspecting mine it has become porous.

I have a look though the usual parts sellers and either can't find one or they only sell them with full senders.

    Thanks for any help

Is that the lever type float? - there should be a few of those around as the senders wear out ..

If your sender is a lever type and the spiral windings of the resistance wire are NOT evenly wound on the flat former under the wiper arm of the sender, but are different pitches along the length then:
In that case I would go as far as buying a new sender for the float alone, and keeping the not so good new sender mechanism for when your more original sender fails through a worn resistance track.

  3. Yeah.

I think I'm just going to have to dish out on a few sender units seems pointless as it was brand new a few years ago.

Or I just live with it as who has a true accurate fuel gauge anyways.

  5. Did think of something like that could be possible.

I don't think there is a specific hole in the float it's just become porous.

  6. Stick it in hot water, watch for bubbles? I've used epoxy on carb floats in the past.
