We fixed at 27day 11night last September ... to stay until Sept 2024.
Feel a weird mix of relieved and guilty given the state so many are going to be in.
Will have to get an "electricity bill job" in October 2024 mind

  2. other, more pessimistic, rate prediction from October here

I was wrong about standing charges - no change in Oct - so some good news.

    https://www.auxilione.com/in-the-news

    • Standing charges do not change in October
    • Gas unit rate will increase from 7p to ~15p
    • Electricity unit rate will increase from 28p to ~57p

@rustbucket that 67p two year fix is looking more and more appealing...

  3. Except that deal assumes that it’s 67p now and it’s half that. It then assumes it will reach 67p at the max, yet the predictions are currently 57p max and it assumes it won’t fall next spring, which it traditionally does when demand tales off. And it takes no account of the recent fall in the price of a barrel of crude. So I reckon it’s a crappy deal and designed to rake it millions of additional profits and there’s no way anyone should agree to pay 67p for the next two years or risk £120 cancellation fee.

  4. So in the latest instalment of the Ovo Fixed direct debit offers. The gift that keeps on giving, well to them anyway. I thought I’d look at every one of my actual bills for this year. The actual amount they billed me. So there’s no muddying the water by them not including standing charges or the 5% vat etc. This is exactly what came out of my bank for my combined gas and electric inc everything.
    Jan feb 22 - £144.56
    Feb mar 22 - £117.86
    Mar apr 22 - £111.20
    Apr May - £89.66
    May June - £146.45
    June July - £150.62

based on these real world usage figures Ovo have revised their offer for a two year fixed today. To protect myself from the coming increases they’ve kindly suggested I fix for £501 a month. That’s not a typo by the way.

  5. Robbing bastards. Still, liz Truss says profit is profit. It’s not a dirty word. And she won’t cap it. EDF in France is capped at £900 a year. So we must be paying for the frogs to keep warm.

How many € are EDF currently suing the French Government for for forcing them to sell below market value? (8 Billion)
As they own most of our power generation, I suppose we probably are!

  7. France nationalised EDF so they can cap the French electricity price. The French government is happy as EDF can rip us off and make them big profits as they know our useless government and Ofgem are weak and don't care about us whatsoever. It wouldn't happen in France as the people would shut the country down with direct action.

Ofgem could have fixed the price cap and so help folks, but they themselves decided to increase the price cap every 3 months. The trouble is the politicians are wealthy and a 200% rise or more in energy bills would not affect them whatsoever. They will vote themselves another fat pay rise.

Big story this week about our government having a meeting with the big energy suppliers to get them to help consumers, but as expected lots of hot air but no concessions from the all powerful energy giants who sent them away with a flea in their ears.

The Tories are gutless and weak and have sold us out to big businesses.

  8. Surely the easiest thing is to carry on without a fixed deal, as opposed to getting hot under the collar, its warm out there today!

  9. Yep.
I'm with OVO and the fixed price offers are ludicrous. I was on a £250 per month fixed price, they're now suggesting £1,300 a month.
I'm just sticking to variable as the Price Cap means that there is some ceiling to the unit prices.

  10. I would stay with the variable rate as its possible that prices will come down and Ofgem may freeze the cap. I am old fashioned and brought up on pay as you go so no direct debits for me as they are a rip off and uncontrolled.

This talk of the 'average' household paying £5000 next Spring for gas and electricity is just scaremongering.

Increasing direct debits by excessive amounts unrelated to actual usage is a scandal and boosts the greedy suppliers finances, using folks money as free money which they get big interest on for free. It sucks.

I pay South East Water 6 monthly in arrears based on actual meter reading, The annual bill for water and sewerage is about £500 and on the latest bill they offer a direct debit payment plan at £800 per month. I may be old but not stupid, direct debits are a scandal.

  11. That’s exactly what I am going to do. No way I’m taking a fixed deal at those prices. What’s made me so angry about it is that because of my work I’m having customers talking to me every day about how scared they are about this winter. Unfortunately some of them will sign up for theses deals. That’s just what these energy companies want them to do. Cos it’s not like they are already making enough profits

  12. And what about our water supply situation? Its another privatisation mess and yet again all about money and big profits to the foreign owners of our water supplies. Us consumers will be forced shortly to cut consumption drastically because we have a multitude of separate private companies serving their individual areas relying on old leaking water pipe systems and old reservoirs and many of the reservoirs they sold off for lucrative housing development to boost their finances.

We cannot rely on regular rainfall as the southern half of the UK has low annual rainfall compared to the north which has an excess of water. Unlike our gas and electricity and transport networks there isn't an integrated water pipeline network and we are not likely to ever get one due to privatisations.

All they do in the south is build, build, build more and more homes without increasing the water capacity and we live in a low rainfall area, so water supplies will always be low.

I am watering my garden, sod it, there are several major water leaks around here that waste vast amounts every day and this water flows onto roads and couldn't be more obvious and South East Water have been notified weeks ago but we may as well talk to a brick wall. Fixing leaks costs money and dents their profits, so they don't bother,

  13. Some of you guys must be great fun at parties :D

  14. Any water engineers on here? We talk about waste through leaks and the water companies want us to reduce water wastage. That’s fine. How much water is wasted on average running all the taps in a commercial building for 3 minutes to flush for legionella and when it’s hot then doing it more frequently. All good water straight down the drain but they don’t care cos it’s paid for via a meter! I’m sure that happens all across the developed world ( not).

  15. It's recycled...:D

  16. That the suppliers are profiteering isn’t controversial. The backstop supposed to protect the user is not working. Remember there’s a cap review in January too - currently predicted to be another +20%.
im not saying you should go for that deal, I’m just trying to understand the thinking behind it.
Like any advance payment they’re likely to factor in where they think prices are going to end up over the period.
I see it as market intel I’m otherwise guessing at.
I’m erring toward going with the rate cap depending on what comes out of offer in a fortnight’s time.

  20. The gas futures can be seen on a number of websites, I can't remember exactly which at the moment though.
