will be running stock height, thinking of upgrading the shocks to new KYB GR2s up front, KYB Gasadjust rear, 195/70/14 AT tyres. thinking of investing in front a rear anti roll bars/ani sway bars, anyone else done this, is it worth it?
Yes.....ditch the KYB's if you want a comfortable ride,if it's handling and steering response go for the KYB's. Anti roll bar upgrade deffo!
If your not doing country roads all that often then go for the stiffer anti roll bars Gas shocks give better handling but are harsher on the ride
just looking to improve the general handling, will have a decent set of tyres on it, BFG AT on stock steels, shock have seen better days hence looking at KYBs as an upgrade, then started thing about sway bars for motorway driving etc, to improvr handling
Your fillings will fall out... Buy oil-filled Boges and spend the rest of the money on drugs. Sorted!
The all terrains will be a pain on the motorway dude If your fitting all terrains to me it says your going to use them as intended so id stay standard anti roll bar and boge oil shocks Ive boge oil shocks from machine seven all round on my bus and it feels nicer to drive on the local roads My daily passat constantly hits the bumpstops on the local roads You need to decide if your bus is going to be a mostly normal road vehicle or a countryside vehicle Anything inbetween is going to be a compramise
Oil filled for comfort and gas for stiffer handling I got my boge oils as a package from machine seven at the end of last year The rides stock and is a little errm undulating at times but once you hit pot holes and uneven surfaces its so much nicer than banging about Im going to drop mine in the future but will use dropped spindles to retain the original spring rate and keep the same dampers If its a tuned engine and you want to push it into corners then its a different kettle of fish
They will wallow a little and be a bit noisy but you wont aquaplane thats for sure Do expect a droning noise that changes with speed though dude
I had the all terrains on a nissan pick up and at 55 to just short of 70 mph they made an annoying resonance That may have been amplified by the load bed but it was a annoying I used to speed up and slow down to change the sound
Had empi antiroll bars front and back on mine. It handled really good, and felt nice and stiff !! Only took the rear antiroll bar off, as I decided to lower my bus shortly after having them installed. Shame but, it had to be removed to avoid hitting the floor. On a standard or slightly lowered bus, it would be fine and I would recommend them. I have my rear antiroll bar for sale in the classified section.
I have KYB gas ajust on the rear and normal KYB shocks on the front. they ride completely fine to me. gas ajust all round would be too harsh though.
You are right that ideally they should be fitted in pairs, but if you are going to remove one, it should always be the rear one and not the front. A stiffer front end will lead to understeer rather then oversteer, which Is always safer. Don't think I will be going that fast to notice !! I have flipped spindles and coilovers and find the ride so much better than when I had the beam adjuster fully wound down. That used to rattle my teeth. Looking at selling the lot at somepoint as would like to go for a double wishbone red9design front end. Best start saving now >
had kybs all round and front hd anti roll on mine std hight. easy to lose the front in the wet. one of the rears failed so fitted std oil shocks on the rear - worse again. need to look at this. got a rear bar and will fit that sometime. Prefer to be able to get the back to break tbh!
