Has anyone got a photo or drawing of how to connect heater control cables to to the heat exchangers - I can't get the ones from JK to work - either they are the wrong part or there is a part missing or I'm missing a trick!

Assuming T1 engine: thread cable end into silver foldy/clampy bits, attach bits to H/Es arms using pin and circlip.

HE arms should be at the top. If they're lower down and have an intermediate lever, you've got Beetle exchangers which'll need modding.

i seem to remember the jk ones being thr wrong length, to short maybe

  4. Assuming type 1 again, Look at the bottom of this picture parts 7-11 - 10 &11 are what clamps to the cable and the other parts are the linkage to the arm. Note the arm on the HE is pointing up, this is a bus HE. After market and later originals have both bug and bus arms, the bug arm points down and is on the other side.
When you have fitted them take the time to adjust them properly so the left and right close and open at the same time otherwise one of them will stop the other from opening/closing fully
