We are fitting the reg plate underneath the bumper but as the van is lowered we will need the reg plate to swing backwards so it doesn't get ripped off when we go camping/hit a speed bump Anyone got a weblink for companies that sell them? Cheers muchly
you could hinge this, i got one of these and it would be an easy job http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Number-Plate-Bracket-Series-Defender-Land-Rover-/260648771712?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cafe0a080 Technohippy has a hinged one on his bay you could pm him for detail.
Just make sure it hinges both ways....on my lowered beetle it was reversing away from kerbs that caused the most damage! In the end the plate lived under the bonnet!
thanks Karl, need to get in touch with John at 81a quick or he'll have screwed it back where it was before!!
I figured you were after a simple hinge ...but a quick search on youtube reveals some people really are wannabe James Bonds!
you just want any piece of plate slightly smaller than your number plate, with a standard hinge either side. 2 bolts through the bottom of your bumper and then mount your number plate to it. Simples. Make sure you use plenty of grease on the hinges though so they stay free moving. I knew someone who was fined for not displaying a font number plate when his plate got stuck in the folded position. Plod pulled him and didn't buy his reason for this happening and he was fined on the spot
Oh yes... the holes have to be a decent size though so it will fit sturdy onto the bumper. I've only got a couple of little brass hinges in my toolbox. Ta lar!
