I'd be putting some sort of rust treatment on that personally. The discs have taken the rust off the peaks of the pitting, but there's still rust in the pits.

  2. Any recommendations on one that doesn't cost the earth? I might need quite a bit of it

I use Bilt Hamber Hydrate-80, but there are others like Kurust, Jenolite etc.

  4. Little update, progress has been slower than I hoped. Weather, Xmas preparations and other house jobs keep getting in the way.

New axles are on order and should be here mid January. New coupling arrived so that was trial fitted before painting the chassis.

Half the chassis has been needle scaler, cleaned and bilt hambered and I got the first coat of primer on this morning. Small victory but it feels good to have something looking more finished

Plan for now is get the chassis all cleaned and painted ready for the axles arriving and then on with flooring and the rest of the massive list in the new year

If you mixed a spirit based paint coat and a xylene based one that could be it. Both need to be thoroughly dried out to get away with that which will take weeks if not months at this time of year outside.
    Nice crackle glaze finish though.

  7. I think that's what I did. Lesson learned, new top coat will be purchased tomorrow.

It definitely is a good effect though
