    What would you do/change?

I personally would have signed up for the Royal Engineers, knowing what I know now.
I don’t mind messing around with spanner’s, I can socialise with people that can give or take a laugh, and if I made it through the other side…I would have a half decent pension.

so what would you all do if you could turn back the clock?

Job wise… I would tell my younger self that the boring career path would be more financially beneficial and the financial freedom would still feed my interests.

however, that wouldn’t put me in the personal position I’m in now, which would be a shame!

Should have taken the job with ARM (the yet-to-be uquibitious mobile phone processor company) in Cambridge when they were still an SME startup just growing out of their first premises.
But then I would have probably never had the time to end up with a 1979 Westerly GK24 yacht and a 1973 VW T2.. would have been rich in share options but not had a life. .. wouldnt have encountered this lot of nutters.

I should have not taken an interest in girls, except for the daughter of the multi millionaire who asked me to marry her …. still not sure why I said no.

  7. Not sure I would change anything major. Not wishing to sound smug, but I reckon I generally made the right (or at least not the worst) choices where necessary, and I’m very happy with my lot. One could always wish for more money but that wouldn’t necessarily change things for the better.
I’m sure Mrs Sydney might have a different point of view.

I’ve had this conversation quite a few times over the last few decades. I’ve done loads of different things for jobs but my main thing was roofing and building. I’ve tried all sorts of other things too. If I had my time all over again and I was sixteen again, I still don’t know what I’d like to do. I might advise the family young uns to drive a second hand car until they’re twenty one ish then get a new one if they fancy it rather than spend weekends putting a new head gasket on this car and new brakes on that car and another new clutch in that van and swapping gearboxes over between vans etc etc etc. Apart from that I might advise that genuine qualifications especially degrees win all hands eventually and very few peeps get comfortably sorted otherwise.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,, I’ve had a great run all the same :)

I once visited an office near ARM in Cambridge - they had a full sized Dalek in one of the windows. Silly buggers.

If I had stayed working on the army camp I would have a super annuated pension and be retired by now. Without having knackered hands and joints.

However, I wouldn’t have done the moving about I’ve done and met all the people along the way

COD Bicester. The military there were RAOC, WRAC, RCT, Pioneers and REME. It’s mainly shut now but it was massive. I think the housing has been sold off to private ownership.
