Inner Centre Sill Section - Sliding Door Side

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by burntout, Apr 7, 2012.

  1. Hi

Ordered the inner centre sill section repair panel, but as seems to be very common these days on repro parts there is no return lip on it, just wondered how anyone else has fitted them in.

We have drilled the spot welds out of the old one but without trying to make a return lip cannot see how its supposed to be joined to the floor.

    Many thanks in advance. :D

  2. that doesnt sound right to me?

I wouldnt buy repro sills (unless autocraft made them ;D) as they a rubbish and the pressings on the one I had were in the wrong place so they would never fit against the floor

the genuine inners fit quite well :)

No, the return part at the top is part of the sliding door track - it's the bit that keeps the roller in the track. This doesn't some with the sill as Diddy knows really - he's thinking of the other side. Personally I never chop a bit off without knowing exactly what it's replacement's like...

  4. The good lady had the buttons earlier! ive drilled the spot welds from the inner sill section which is fine apart from the steped bit being out as always ::) The centre is cut upto just below the silding door track (most of that bit only needed a broom to take it out :p ) the return on the og one looks to turn inward toward the centre of the bus from what i can see so far but the jk centre section just stops at a straight edge, if that doesnt make sense will get a pic

Will give the buttons back now so normall good spelling will resume

    Its one of these:

It turns towards the outside of the bus and as said earlier provides part of the sliding door track...You'll notice the original is curved and the repro has hard bends - your job is to leave as much intact as possible and add bits of the new one, or take it right off (Diddy did on his thread), fix it and put it back in one piece (a bit long winded IMO). You just can't get a whole one for some reason.

  6. Cheers Zed, had a feeling that was going to be the case.

Will take a look at that howto link cheers MJ

Don't do it like spooky! Long winded doesn't begin to describe it.
