Is this exhaust any good for my bay???

  1. found this exhaust lurking in the back of my cupboard, mus've come with the bus, just wondered if it would be any use for the bus, and if it'd be any better than the stock one?? seems to be a merged header (i also have some j tubes - but want to keep the heating) and a side exit jobby with a smaller silencer......

Will it fit, and is it likely to be any good>??

Im gonna get it blasted and paint it up 1st obviously, lol......

  2. Looks like a Beetle exhaust to me (silencer), but the header might fit (or might clout your back bar). Only way to know is to try to fit it.

  3. Ar yes, i'd forgotten about the rear support bar...will have a quick measure up tomorrow?

Is it likely to be any better than the stock setup though if it will fit??

Mine seems a tad restrictive, and apparently sounds very odd, and sounds like too much gas is being shoved thru a small hole apparently......and so i've been told sounds nothing like a bus should sound?

  4. If you've got a single stock carb, I'd stick with a stock exhaust. I find 4-into-1s resonate when you're cruising and drive you nuts.

But - up to you. Don't expect any improvement in performance. You'll just lose the VW blatt-blatt sound.

  5. mine's a 1641 with engle 100 and twin 34 icts and an 009. Mine honestly doesnt sound like a bus anyway, lol.....sounds really odd, and its got a little blow on it......

Just wanna get the bus setup properly on an a rolling road, and dont want the zaust restricting things? hmmm......

  6. It's a four to one exhaust with equal length pipes so should be a bit better than the standard.

  9. The header looks like an old Mexican EMPI product (pre Chinese EMPI). If you do intend to try and fit it check the spacing between the flange fixing holes and compare with those on your engine first before removing the current exhaust. It was not unknown for them to vary in width. I took one back once and was told to rotate the barrels to make it fit. Of course it might have come off your engine in the first place in which case fitting wouldn't be a problem. Going from memory those silencers made an interesting noise more based on the theory that noise = performance than anything else.
Personaly whether it will be much better than stock is very doubtful.

  10. hmmm.....sounds interesting......might have a measure up then, and order some new gaskets maybe :)

  11. that silencer looks loud

  12. its a glass pack silencer isn't it. Glass pack = loud, but not in a throaty kind of way, more like in a 125 motorbike without silencer kind of way.
    :)

  13. Your ears will bleed
the pre heat pipes wont line up, the maifolds probably wont either. you'll need crowbars and abig hammer to fit it
    bin it

it looks like an old kadron glasspack, ran one years ago, sounded like a spitfire and spat and banged on slowing down
you will get a headache going to the shops

  15. I had a very similar exhaust on my old beetle. Made a fantastic sound around town, but may be too noisy for cruising down the motorway.
