But your socks will turn beige, no one will wave at you, your children will disown you and you’ll wheel barrels of your own wee about
I've got a TDI Clubman now...we sold the bay. They ain't 4 berth though...only two forward facing seats with belts and the space over the cab would only suit a child. Other than that great vans and do about 40mpg!
No offence taken. We've owned our T30 for the last 10yrs and I'm ashamed to say we have only done less than 35,000 miles in it in that time and the mileage is currently 146,754. It still gets serviced twice a year and the oil doesn't get chance to turn black. I would estimate with servicing and work carried out in our ownership I am some £9,000 plus out of pocket.....the T2 has probably cost more, but that's more due to keeping the rust at bay. The intention was to convert the T5 but we found it more useful as a 6 seater Kombi and the T2 has always been the holiday bus.....but the wife refuses to drive the T2 till I fit a servo, power steering and a complete set of new gear lever/rod bushings. I wish the OP all the best in their decisions and feel sure all will work out in the end.
I borrowed a t6 California from work and took it up to the derby dales, hands down it better than the bay so refined and quite plus the inside is just pure luxury, but it’s not the bay the louvred window rattling away it has a charm the t6 although lovely has no sole.
Just sold our T6 after owning nearly 5 years and all trips are a breeze just drove 1200 miles straight through from europe but and a big but so expensive and no character. The aftermarket parts scene for these T4s and T5s is crazy. As above wait until spring there will be loads of financed vans up for sale.
I just couldn’t imagine camping in something with no soul. Even tents have some soul. I’m not sure I could make it work
It's tempting Andy, my Bay hasn't left the village for a couple of years, I tend to take a tent and go camping on my bike these days.
Ours T6 doesn’t have any of that, but even if it did, it wouldn’t bother me. I don’t ask it to have soul, I just ask it to get me to where I want to go with much less worry of something breaking or falling off . The “soul” comes from the people in it, and the adventures we have when we get there. When it was just me and Mrs Tatt having a classic vehicle was great, but now with a lady cub to look after I like having a vehicle that is modern and safer.
When I retire, I’ll probably end up buying one because I’d like to go to Europe, Ireland etc. hopefully I’ll end up keeping the bay too for less ambitious stuff. Just wish they’d fit them out in a more ‘retro’ way - easy to do with polished plywood units etc
The camper sold last night... I was public enemy number 1 with the daughter last night for selling it... I was surprised how guilty I felt about selling it to be honest ... Anyway it's gone to a good home , I've pointed the guy that bought it in this direction so keep an eye out for him Over and out
