    "Knock Knock"

    Whose there??

    Fuel.

    Fuel who??

l have a tank full of fuel and I'm telling the world. And it REALLY isn't funny

l am wondering if anyone else has had this sort of problem or if it is common. l changed my tank over and today filled it with lots of the good stuff. l thin noticed while messing with the bus that there was an annoying knocking coming from the bus when it was rocked. It turns out that the fuel sender float is knocking the underside of the tank. As this is right under my bed it is a tad annoying and advertising this on here will no doubt result in annoying rocking of the Surprise Bus and interrupted nights sleep :(

l have an idea of what to do and that will result in me bending the arm downwards a bit. It will put the gauge out a bit but as it only ever reads half full when full (It's a half full bus) that is something l can live with.

Anyone else had this problem?? l never had it with my previous tank and this sender unit. The unit that came with the tank did not work.

It is the twist in style one. In correctly. There is only one way it can be fitted due to one of the lugs being smaller than the rest of them.

  4. earplugs it is then !

  5. theres two tabs on the sender one for the bottom stop and one for the top stop bend the top stop one in very slightly and this will stop the arm before the float taps on the top of the tank hope this helps ;)

...but if it only reads half before it hits the top of the tank, bending the arm down will let it read higher? What'll happen when it's approaching empty though, you'll have to experiment with.

That's what I thought those lugs did in preventing it go to far up and tapping the top of the tank. Never did it before in the old tank. This new one isn't a different shape or dented.

As for reading half full I think it's the gauge that is at fault in the reading. It used to read 3/4 full but has got progressively worse over 3 years.

I'm getting the bus out again on Friday so I'll have a bother go while it's got so much gas in it and I'll report back. Just glad I have that little hole in the top of my bulkhead. I'd be mighty annoyed if I had to drop the engine again :)

    Thanks for the replies.

I can see what you mean Zed. I'm now actually wondering if it ever had full swing to read full in the first place.

As for fill ups I only ever do around 200 miles before I fill up. I've worked it out and the bus will only do about 280 miles on a tank.

  9. if its the case that the sender isnt traveling fully upwards to give you the correct reading and the gauge is working correctly the bend out the tab outwards to allow more arm upwards travel then bend down the arm so you dont hit the tank top with the float but the wiper travels further up the resistor track
