Hi Guys, Is this my first post? Errr, Hi Everyone. I've got a 76 bay with a westfalia tow bar, the one with the bumper irons attached and the tow ball bolted on with 2 bolts underneath the tube. Only I've never had a tow ball......and i've had the bus 20 years so I guess it's not too much of a problem. Question is can you get them from anywhere?? Cheers Steve
not seen that style before, deffo same as the westy on i have mounting wise, i'm sure one of the other guys will know or have seen that style. this is mine when i fitted it Towbar.MP4
Hasnt Joker got a westy tow bar fitted...I remember him saying summat in the engine clearance thread!
Think the fitting is on standard centres. Measure up and google it, looks similar to the ones on landies Cheers S (ps if you type ' landies' in an iPhond spellcheck comes up Pansies, little things amuse me )
there are loads of companies doing swan necks , westfalia still produce a huge range if you had a part number they coulp possibly croos reference it but the swan neck alone is around £120 saw these on ebay though and may be worth a bid http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?rt=nc&LH_Auction=1&_nkw=westfalia+swan+neck&_dmpt=UK_Car_Accessories_Touring_Travel&_trksid=p3286.c0.m301
Just as a side note, tow bars will soon be a testable item in the MOT test... so ball wear will be checked along with the electrical socket...
Electrics are as of Jan 2012... I'll have to check with my MOT guy as to when the ball wear comes into play... but I remember, as he mentioned having to use wear gauges on the ball
Pretty cheap to replace though unless you've got one of those like the OP is after. My trailer coupling was sloppy and the hitch has a wear indicator on it so I knew it needed doing. About £7 from Machine Mart. I guess some people will unbolt them for the test, like novelty number plates.
