I tried to semi retire six years ago but got fed up. In the four months I was off I did the theee peaks challenge drove around Ireland for a week France for a month and rebuilt a summerhouse. When that was over I got bored and went back on the road. I think it’s called Wanderlust!
I still do a bit now retired , did jobs for the kids to save them money . I have thought of contacting farmers who have collapses on some of there drystone walls, and would like to repair some holes that could be caught before the domino effect takes part . But bugger the ones that are about 100 metres and totally flat .
So here’s an interesting (optimistic) twist. Car has a mot and was taxed in December, it was driven home then used on Xmas day for my mum to come to the house. I insured it on daily cover. Got a letter Monday from MID stating unless I insured it, I’d get fined or I should SORN it. I don’t want to insure a car worth a grand for £350 when I’m insured on a bike and my daily. It’s been used once in 3 months, it’s barely used. I’ve been paying Road tax for it. I see no reason to insure it if it’s not in use on my drive, I’m not breaking the law surely? Conclusion is insurance companies are grabbing tw**ts who are only getting worse.

I've had this 'threat' from an insurer before, as my vans used to be parked on our rear drive between November and March, but I used to SORN them to get the tax back anyway.. I can't open that link as I'm in Thailand, so the AA assumes I don't need their services.... It's a odd scenario, almost penalising you for keeping a car taxed? If you are going to SORN it, check the timescales for re-taxing it, I think it can't be retaxed for 2 weeks after a SORN declaration.
