I've already told him my nut is 24mm , he says this is late bay and early is 27mm Edit LOL mines 27mm also ..no clue why I thought it was 24...
Interesting! My daughter fitted a Litesteer kit to my LHD 1977 Westy back when she was 15 as an engineering project. I kept an eye on her to make sure everything was safe and needed to help when bowling stuff back together as for one task you need someone under the bus and someone in the cab at the same time. To be fair she wasn't a normal 15 year old then and is even more capable now as she is in her last year of studying for an M.Eng in aerospace engineering and is also a pilot. That said fitting the kit is straightforward. It's a very worthwhile modification and makes manoeuvring super easy. The speed sensitive assistance works a treat so the steering feels nice at any speed. In regards to LHD unless they have modified the kit you will find that the motor on the steering column wants to be in the same position that the fuse box is and that you will need to ease the wiring loom to give a bit of play to relocate the fuse box to fit the column back on.
I fitted the kit to my '77 LHD over 8 years ago and didn't have to modify it at all, the motor is well clear of the fuse box.
If it's as old or older than mine it will have the speed sensor in the cable. I might not have bought it if it had GPS.
Signal loss. My satnav loses signal in certain circumstances and I would rather have a cable driven speed sensor – but I know cables break.
It will lose signal, but the satnav predicts the direction you are going in until it gets signal again.
It was my concern as well as I’ve lost gps signal in the lakes and Scotland before I’m told it reverts to zero assistance should it loose gps signal
Mine is a speed sensor that goes between the speedo cable and the back of the speedo. I think mine was bought in 2016.
The fuse box in mine is directly behind the steering column hence the issue and need to have a bit of play in the loom so the fusebox could move a little
Don't think it's so much signal loss - it does apparently revert to stock steering if it get confused - just that relying on satellite comms for a basic function of a 70s van seems a bit too much tech. You could say the same about the speedo cable sensor, I suppose: if the Hall-effect sensor packs up, you're no going to fix that with your spanners...
Got a pic of your kit installed? Does it clout your knees? There's a lot of ironmongery to go under the dash
It certainly would be of interest to me and a fair few others I’d imagine It would be good to add another how to guide to the forum if you fancied doing it that way. No rush though
