Lock re-builds

  1. I have a matching set for my bus but the cab locks have had the chrome covers damaged in the past and the sliding door cylinder (x over in handle jobbie) is worn to the extent that you could open it with a lolly stick. Anyone know eher I can get these fettled and any idea of cost?

  2. use the easy guide on the samba and rebuild the locks your self

  3. I dont have the parts mate. I want a turn key job ( you see what I did there!) ::)

i can do it for you, £10 a lock, the sliding door one may be tricky as they often get rotted in

  5. Do you have new chrome caps for the cab door locks as these are goosed due to vandalism/attempted break-ins? The slider is early style - in the handle found what looks like a small screw but it wouldnt budge and I didnt want to cock it up!

They are all actually a matching set but as I say the slider just turns regardless of key or not (it hasnt always). Rear hatch is fine so its cab doors and slider. I do have an engine lock also which is a different key and I might get that doine too.

You saying you can turn these around for me?

yup i can fix um, i have some spare barrels and would probably have to use 2 replacement ones as the caps are crimped on, sometimes the sliding door lock grub screw needs to be drilled out.

  7. yer on. How long do you reckon to do them? Im fitting some temporary locks as I have some new brazilian ones but will neet to find a sliding door handle. Assume you need the cylinders and a good key. Willget a spare cut as obviously its the ignition. I have 2 butba spare would be best for peace of mind. PM me an address or email me and wil get them sent down some time next week

  8. During my resto, I found the Brazilian locks are a slightly different fit to the late bay, and therefore probably 1972 also.
Real pain in the backside as I had to have all the new trim professionally removed to find this out. Plus tailgate gasket needed to be cut to fit. Meaning I had to leave the original barrels in place in cases (sliding door most annoyingly).

Davidoft - Wish I knew about your your key service beforehand. Tried VW dealers, ebay, all sorts. In the end, managed to get two new barrels squeezed into front doors, meaing I can now lock the van, but still left with 4 sets of keys for the van (1=ignition, 2=front doors + tailgate + engine lid, 3=sliding door...which also doesn't really lock properly except from inside, 4=Petrol cap, but I reckon I can still change that fairly easily).

Typically, the oringal front door handles don't seem to have the original key code on them so I can't contact VW classic in Germany to get replacements.

    Argggggh

Do you think you'd be able to fit a brazlian lock into a sliding door?
