I've purchased some new glass for the mirrors which is convex.
I'm hoping not to damage the edging around the glass any tips for removing?

Heat on the adhesive holding the glass in, gentle levering ... faff. That edging plastic will fall apart very easily.....

then stick it in a bag and hit the glass smartly with a hammer, pick out pieces, replace adhesive ..

  3. The edging is THE crucial part of the assembly , if the edging is brittle or missing in most cases it`s pointless trying ...

Simply break the mirror (i know , i know ...) and tease out the surround . Assembly is refit the surround and pop the new glass in to trial for depth of double sided tape - might take a few tries to get the correct thickness and see the world in a whole new light . They really are a gamechanger , especially on LHD .

Ok great will give it a bash over the weekend. :)

  5. If the edging does break, a squidge of transparent bath mastic around the edges does the job fine

  7. Need to get rid of the plastic bit completely

  8. The plastic surround on mine crumbled away as soon as I looked at it so mine are fixed in with clear adhesive, been fine for the last year since I did it.

Also agree with Chris regarding how good a mod this is, probably the best bang for the buck thing I've done on the bus:thumbsup:

  9. There are several models of mirror and most aren't interchangeabe - I kid you not .....

    Edit...
Couple of bits from the spare room stash . Both totally different size surround , if you have the body to match the surround it works but otherwise forget it - and then there's the cheapo crappy mirrors without any surround which are actually too small to take a curved replacement. There's probably half a dozen versions of what we all thought was a basic mirror...

  10. Would it help by saturating the mirror with glue and tar remover ? I use it a fair amount and the garage and it makes life so much easier when removing sticker adhesive from windscreen

Life is too short and you have to consider what the solvent does to the ancient plastic.

I seem to remember that one of mine fell out on the drive... the chipped glass is now surrounded by silicone as there were so many fragments of the original surround just fell out before that..

  12. Worth a try in my opinion rather than just reaching for the nearest hammer .
