My spark plug short circuited

There was a strange rushing noise , a loss of power .... and there was a disappointingly small puff of smoke from the dash vents as I pulled onto the hard shoulder at 0710 this morning.
Now my spark plug is short circuited.
NOT GOOD ENOUGH!
Should have been more smoke.


Exhaust valve on No4 head fell off .
Jammed sideways and bent piston down which disintegrated. The thing in the exhaust valve hole is a part of the gudgeon pin sleeve from the piston.


Engine lost very little oil. Hole in top of case. Metal filings fired into other cylinders via intake valves. Piston rings chopped into 20mm bits.

At least JK has a Preservation Parts engine available. Monday or Tuesday it should be here. £2600 ish including £420 exchange charge I expect to be paying in full.

I've got a type 4 case you can have for £50 - needs a line bore, but might help get your £420 back?

 

I know of a 1776 - sounds decent - 1,500 .

Let us know what your JK engine is like. Are they still doing Vege?

 

Jk offered me a Vege recon, or a mostly new 1641 with stock everything , Autolinea case, AA pistons and stainless valves .
Off the shelf at the builders.

VWH offered similar but on a 2 month lead time.

I started adding up a rebuild shopping list while I was standing beside the M27, and it came to over half the cost of the new engine.

When I stripped down the engine it was worse than expected.

What do I do with all this stuff ?
