My friends used to tease me about my tacky Trans Ams. They never understood. They were just old school disco-silly to me, but the horsepower was undeniably serious.

Then My mother gave me one of her old Cadillacs and it calmed me right down. A Cadillac reminds you there is more to life than speed.

  10. My Dad, (who lives in Oregon) had a modded twin turbo 1976 Chevrolet Corvette putting out some 550bhp. On one visit i stole the said vehicle and took it for a spin (its my job as his son to nick his stuff) . Literally. Floored it at the bottom of his drive and did a 360. Scared the **** outta me. Not to be deterred i then (a tad more carefully) took it for a ride amongst the small roads by St Helens floored it again going up a hill and took off and got a whole lot of air. On landing though i ripped off his brand new twin stainless steel exhausts. He hid the keys after that.

  11. Any story that involves "landing" a Corvette is a good story in my book.

l love how the basic shape of the TA didn't really change from the 70 1/2 (The most beautiful of them all) except for the odd nose job and bum lift until the release of the 82 Knight Rider model.

  13. Any of those big old detroit tanks are great. The modern stuff churned out in the US is just abysmal. Its a shame that US designers came out with such amazing iconic cars to drool over, but couldn't make a car capable of going round corners. Those low compression motors were all about low down torque and that amazing rumble you only get from a US tank.

Its a shame that style, substance and build quality were never married
    :)

  15. I know Jim Rockford had a Firebird but all that was going through my head as I scrolled through your pictures was the theme tune from The Rockford Files. Nice selection of cars.

  18. Oh they corner quite nicely once you get the hang of it. You just have to begin the process about 100ft early.
Say you're turning right. You snap the wheel to the left for a second, brake, drop a gear, spin the wheel all the way right while popping the clutch/throttle wide open. The back end slides around and you drift sideways for a little while.
By the time you reach your turn you're already facing right. Then punch it.
It's not quite as fast at cornering as the lighter more agile cars, but I would always be passing them again by the time I hit 4th gear anyway.
