Hi eveyone, I've ordered a Scat VW Full Flow Oil Pump with external Filter and a Fram unit to on the end, for my type 1 engine in my bus. Has anyone fitted one of these before? Also I has thinking I could run a thinner semi synthetic oil i.e Castol Magnatec. Is this the ultimate sin? > I would prefer this set up to getting a new oil cooler and all the pipes and electrics that go with it. Also it gives about another 1/2 litre of oil which should help. Also got some plastic ears to go on the engine cooling vents.
well as it holds little oil change it when it goes dark in colour,or every 3k, im sure someone has some more to say on cooling the oil more. these engines were designed to run on classic oil. and have done for 40 odd yrs.
Are you sure the pump'll fit without clouting the backbar or exhaust - this might be a prob. Forget the fancy oil - it'll do nothing. The filter's a good idea, tho', and more oil in the system is also good. The plastic ears will do absolutely nothing, but if it makes you happy ...
I'm running a 1589cc twin port. Should clear the exhaust I may get some heat reflective tape. I got the idea from this article: http://www.aircooled.net/vw-performance-easy-mods-bolt-on/ The ears I've seen on Aussie buses before and some split screens I saw at Dub Aid last weekend. They are clear plastic so they aren't that noticeable. I have an oil temp gauge so we shall see if it makes a difference . Oil filter adapter hasn't arrived yet. Currently running at about 90 degrees at the mo.
The temp did get upto 100-110 when I got it upto 70mph for a few mins. Also heads towards 100 around town. Was running it on a cold night on Monday last time it ran though. I may take the ears off in winter. I'll post back about spinner filter when it comes.
