New petrol cap

  1. Bought a new locking petrol cap for my van from VWHeritage a couple of months back. I've only used the van a couple of times since then and filled it up twice. Yesterday when i filled it up i couldn't get the petrol cap back on and locked. I had to leave it jammed on only. I did try it with out the rubber seal which is about 3mm thick and it went on no bother but rattled.

Is there something else easy that i could replace the seal with or could i use a sprays of WD40 to loosen things up. Not sure if i should be mixing it with petrol.

  2. wd40 the lock bro ....wont do nuffin to the petrol unless you spray 25 cans worth looooool....have a good weekend

  3. sounds like it just needs freeing up and then greasing. WD40 won't hurt your petrol
    :)

  4. A drop of oil on the key and dripped down into the key slot will ease the tumblers of the lock. Making a puddle of WD40 and dripping that in would work too. Do it with the cap off then nothing will go into the tank.
