  1.
  2. Ive a 009 dizzy hear and petronix ignition for a vac advance

What was wrong with your vac advance dizzy? if its fine then im willing to swap my 009 for it so i can then fit the petronix i have

  3. Ok 1 cylinder has to be set with compression cycle on so both rockers closed. I can figure that out taking off the rockers. Coil was connected up wrong electrics guy sorted that. I've been told to open up the plug graps for the petronix 2 anyone had a play and figured out the new best new gap?

  4. The points on my vacum advance dissy had jammed on when I had my broke down and blow my coil. I got hold of petronix 2 kit for vacumless 009 dissy and thought this was best to use after hearing the vacumless dizzy was better on fuel economy. Anyway I'll see tomorrow and try and get the 009 set up to work.

  5. Dead battery has stopped play....On charge will go again tomorrow.

  6. i got a pertronic on a vacunm dizzy and have no problems...
my dizzy is set off set to pictures in haynes manyual. runs beautiful.
as said before no 1 leads needs to be were rotor arm is at tdc. i usually pull no 1 plug and feel the piston with a non metalic object so i know when its at tdc, try not jamming the object. slowly does it...

You need to be sure the coil is getting power from ignition, run a wire from battery to pos on coil and try it, if it starts and runs you know its the lt lead fron ignition, you will how ever need to pull wire off the coil to stop the engine,
if its the mk one petronic dont do this as it may well burn out,
Also i have the flame thrower coil which is made for the pertronic ignition.
have you got the right coil for this system,

  8. I have a petronix 2 ignitor and petronix 2 coil for 009 dissy. The old dissy still looks serviceable and I have a set of new points but I would prefer to get the electronic ignition working. If I have no luck tomorrow I'll revert to the vacum one. If the first coil didnt blow does anyone have any idea what would of caused my loss of spark? Alternator issues?

  9. If your points were jammed, you'd have no sparks.

  10. Ok but what would cause the points to jam?

  11. old points?crap made points?loose screw?

  12.
  13. if you've got pertronix electronic ignition you need a strong battery or it shuts down. Any farting about with any of the wiring on the pertronix will render it u/s as they are very susceptible to shorting out. If you've no spark at all you may possibly have burnt the unit out
    :)

  14. just wondering if the original abrupt failure was caused by the points welding shut due to a faulty capacitor....

  15. Fritt that would make sense just suddenly had a total shut down.

Joker I have the Petronix 2 kit, double checked and believe it is wired up correctly. I've also checked my valve clearances some of them were way out. Just waiting for the battery to finish charging it was flat as a pancake. The standard pulley wheel isn't the greatest had to get the good old tip ex out and mark up the timing. The dissy shaft is 180 degrees out to the Haynes manual but the plug leads are in the right order. I hear this common with 009 copies?

  16. We have power! Installed the dizzy as per haynes manual and thing has fired up. Weird as the rotor arm was if a different place but I think the petronix unit has sorted that out. Runs like a dream has alot more pick up now.

Do I keep the spark gaps the same or open them up a bit?

  17. some of the aftermarket distributors are 180 degrees out, I think mine is a 009 and its out. The firing order remains the same, you just find #1 and rotate the leads around to suit. I think the pertronix instructions advise moving the plug gap out, on a stock engine there is no need. Its not really a performance upgrade though they like to tell you it is
    :)
