No spark

  1. Put engine back in but it's a no starter. No spark at all. Am I right in thinking that black 12v feed wire to terminal 15 on coil?? If I then put a ht lead to coil with a spark plug in I should get a spark when engine is cranked? I'm wondering if iv made a wrong connection and fried my electronic ignition and / or coil????

  2. Hello there,

I put my eletronic ignition in this weekend, i am no good with the terminology of the numbers but the black lead from the distributor went to the negative connector on the coil.

    Hope this helps

  4. Getting 12v from ignition feed (black cable) that I understand to go to #15 on coil. When I do this, I get 12v at all the other terminals on the coil too?? This don't seem right to me.....

    Aarrrrggggghhhhhh

  5. It's switch live not perm live. This goes to the minus on your coil.

Are you not getting a spark then?

  6.
  7. test the coil's secondary winding, attach the test probes to the outer 12V pole and the center pole (where the main wire goes to the distributor). Determine the resistance and check to see if it's within the range indicated in your repair manual. If it is, your coil is up to the task. If it's even slightly out of range, your coil should be replaced

  8. Just tryed both my coils on my mates bus and it fired right up so now I'm getting more confused. Also put points and condenser in just to eliminate electronic ignition.

  10. Is the engine cranking?

  11. Check dissy is turning

  12. direct live feed is a good idea s Ive had ignition switch issues in the past where the engine turns but at the start postion there was no ignition feed.

  13. had the dizzy cap still got the carbon spring thing..?

I always check spark like this..

    Ignition on...

Take a lead off and put a new plug on it ,put the plug on the engine/manifold etc...

Turn the bottom pully and watch....

  14. Got it working, said electronic ignition not working, plus an iffy connector. Points n condesor back in and it's running, but really rubbish

The timing will be different with electronic ignition.
