Hello all, you'll be pleased to know its not a "which oil" question, so please carry on reading. Today i took off the oil filler cap and saw what looked like a couple of small droplets of water and a greyish sludge in the cap and around the oil filler hole. I had had the engine running for a couple of minutes before i took the cap off, i also checked the dip stick for state of the oil but that looked fine. i also felt the oil to see if it felt gritty or if it felt like it had lost viscosity. i am no expert but have seen poor or over used oil before. the questions are if you think it may be water in there how could it have got there. Is this a real problem that may need an expert to look at it before it goes pete tong or after the advise from the experts on here could i fix it myself. by Experts i mean anyone who gives me a sensible answer. Sorry Malc
Sounds like condensation to me. Often caused by loads of short trips or letting it run for just a few minutes so it never gets up to a decent temperature. I wouldn't worry about it but maybe take it out for a run.
just moisture....just run the engine for lil while longer ,the water will just burn off if its just drips bruv...nuffin to do with grade of oil ....if you look at a majority of cars oil caps ,theres drips in cold weather ..we live on a cold island after all ...and put ya cap on tight )
Thanks for all the replies, am taking it out for a good long drive this weekend after i have changed the oil, which was the last of my jobs to do. Cheers Para (lol)
