Paint question

  1. Hi all

I’ve sprayed my pop top roof and it’s gone pretty well overall but it is a little uneven in the finish in some patches. It’s had primer in a thin coat then 1 coat which I wet sanded flat then two top coats.

Most is shiny with patches that are a little duller. I have lacquer coats to apply still.

I’m not expecting perfection, but what would be the suggested approach to finish it from here?

    Many thanks.

    Tony.

  2. What type of paint did you use, 2K?

  3. Yes, 2K. Thanks.

You say you still have lacquer to apply? Is it a base coat, clear coat system you're using? If so you'd typically apply the basecoat, and then after a short flash off period (e.g. the one I used it was about an hour) you apply the clear coat. It's a chemical bond between the two coats so you wouldn't wet sand in between.

Only then if you're not happy with the finish would you wet sand it flat and mop it. You might be using a different paint system though so I might be misunderstanding.

Indeed, if you're lacquering over 2K solid colour... why? Your dull bits will be paint too dry (coat not thick enough).

What @JamesLey said if its bc/cc, although if you have some 2k clearcoat to go on, just DA it flat with a 400g disc, or wet flat it with 600g, then clear coat it.

  8. OK, many thanks, will wet flat it and coat with clear and see how that goes. First go, so learning on the job.
