Petronix Ignition Gap?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Dr Ben, Aug 31, 2011.

  1. Hi

I fitted an old petronix ignition module that I had from my old van into a vacuum dizzy and I seem to remember needing a gap between the magnet and the unit being set with a bit of plastic which has gone walkabout!

Its running ok with a small gap but would like to get it right.

Can some kind soul please let me know the gap (in mm as I only have metric gauges!)

    Thank you
    Ben

    Standard is 0.85mm.

  3. Thank you

  4. Don't forget to regap your spark plugs. Pertonix recommend an extra 0.005 in or 0.13mm.

  5. If it's working, it's working. The actual gap doesn't matter that much.

  6. well done dude

  8. God intended we run with points that produce a weaker spark. The petronix unit puts out a stronger spark hence the improvement in the mid range. We are also talking 0.005 in, it makes sense to open the gap up. More chance of all that petrol air mix to burn completely.

  9. Well the Petronix died anyway after a few weeks! I have since fitted an accuspark unit which has been somewhat surprisingly really good!

    Cheers
    Ben
