Been trying to get these wheels clean on my wife's car. Don't know what the black streaks are but they don't seem to want to budge. Tried stuff in the pic so any other suggestions most welcome. I need to try petrol and diesel next. It's like some sort of burnt sugar/larva. 20230610_180811.jpg 20230610_180819.jpg

Brake dust. God knows I’ve tried so many products!

  3. Hello everyone,

wasted a few years with crap like that. Cleaning rims with ugly chemicals from black brake pad dust

I have replaced my brake pads with Ate Ceramic on my modern VW with aluminum rims -
now there is only a little light dust and maybe a cleaning once a year - but much less than with normal brake pads. :)
I use these now more than 2 years - everything is fine...

    regards,

Odd because the brake pads are original and the car is low mileage 18000. Surely the manufacturer wouldn't put iffy stuff on a new car. We bought it at 8000 miles.

  5. You’ve not got a split cv boot have you?
Then again even baked grease should clean off

Something like Autoglym Magma should shift it.

  11. Shake and Vac. It'll clean that off and put the freshness back. It's all you need to do!

Try using ever coarser Scotchbrite pads on it (start with a basic kitchen scourer sponge .. ) , coupled with the various proprietary wheel cleaners, left to soak on for 5 mins etc. e.g. Demon Wheels, Autoglym ...

Or if there was no finish on the wheels, 2000 grade wet and dry..
