Pistons - Type 4 (2 Litre)

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by alpha981, Apr 24, 2012.

  1. Quick one (hopefully) - I have a spare set of pistons which have a depression in them - I thought that 2l engines had flat crowns (not got mine out to check yet).

Are there two types? Am I looking at lower compression pistons? Help!

    Confused.

They could be for a stateside T4 engine. The US buses ran lower compressions to the Europeans.

However the T4 engine was also available in other applications like Porsche 914/4 and T25's so they could be for them. If you have a part number, google it and it should tell you.

  3. 2L bus pistons had a dished top (low comp)

2L 914 pistons had a flat top (high comp)
